Reception Theory

Preferred reading: This is when the producer is trying to show you a certain message that everyone  agrees on.
Negotiated reading:This is when parts of the message from the producer is accepted and the other      part is rejected by the audience.
Opposional reading: This is when the audience completely rejects everything in the message.

2)The preferred reading for the Harry Brown trailer is that young people are represented as violent, their a lot of reasons for this, one is at 0:07 they are beating up one person, this makes the audience believe they are stereotypical, the audience is expected to feel frustrated and annoyed.
The Oppositional reading for the Harry Brown trailer is that young people are represented as savages and rebellious however at 1:12 he has captured someone and it seems that he has been torturing him, after at 1:39 he seems to have just killed him this makes himself worse than the young people in his town/city.

3)Harry Brown makes the audience a preferred reading this positions them to believe everything they show about the young people in the movie.
4)Young people might reject the the reading and construct an opposional thought because of how they might not act in that way compared to the people in the movies, this makes them reject what the producer intended for the audience to see.

5)preferred reading. I think this is a preferred reading because of how the burger itself looks tasty to the audience and Mac Donald themselves say that it is a meal disguised as a sandwich, thus making the audience believe in their advertising

Negotiated reading. I think this is a negotiated reading because of how the audience may partially agree that it "its as good as it is big" since that they have had one and liked it, however it still isn't healthy so it isn't "disguised as a sandwich" thus making the audience partially agree and disagree
Opposional reading. I think this is a opposional reading becuase of how it is "100% beef", this makes the audience a little annoyed because it has been said before that Mac Donald has chemicals in their food and is sometimes unhygienic making them completely reject what the producer has set for the audience.

audience power essay(final)

"The internet has given audiences much more power then ever before" to what extent do you agree.

In this essay I will write about how the internet has given audiences more power allowing the consumers to do a numerous amount of things.I will write about three media industrys, music, print film and televisions. I will show both sides of this argument for each industry and i will say each advantage and disadvantage.
I aim to also give my own opinion on whether the internet makes the audience more powerful or if it doesn't and at the end i will come to my conclusion

The Music industry has changed significantly, over the years they have developed technology to be able to record all their music video and also being able to change the effects on the recording this adds something new and can attract the viewers in multiple ways since they can edit a lot of the work they do without needing to redo their scenes-this saves time. also because of youtube and some apps/websites no one needs to go to a record label to get their music heard(this also had a chance of being a waste of time since people wont always want to buy/listen to their music)
One of the ways that audiences have gained more power inside the music industry is because of how people can now self publish, this drastically changes everything since people on youtube who make music (or used to) can get major publicity like Justin Beiber and KSI who have both known for their raps/singing. youtube is what they used but their are many more like spotify, deezer, iTunes, sound cloud etc. people have an easy way to express their talents to the audience. the music industrys audience is most likely a mainstream when it comes to their audience since nearly everyone likes some type of music. However with all of this power the negative factor is that their a lot of people doing the exact same thing, this leads to competition like from (insert example), this means that they will have to fight for viewers, this could be a negative and a positive since conflict with people(they can hurt them through the UGC) cause more publicity. another drawback is that their is a chance of cyber bullying onto their channel  this usually hurts the prosumer (in a mental way) since they work hard to do create music and please their audience.

The Film and Television industry has changed greatly over the years, one of the changes to the television is that now we can actually record shows/films, this is good for when their is something on that you like but cant watch it at the exact time or when you want to keep something you have watched so you can watch it again.
One of the advantages for film and television is that now the audience is now able to use streaming services, this means that any consumer now has the power to watch anything whenever they want, this could also be a disadvantage because of how you cant choose what you want to watch because the producers are in control of it but this is when recording solves half of this problem since now you can watch what you want on demand but not every show or film that is their that the audience can think of.
Netflix is another streaming service that makes the consumers have to pay for access for this media. The advantage for this is that they have exclusive shows on Netflix and have many other shows and films that may not may not even originate in our country(ig. anime, etc) one of the exclusive shows is called Luke cage, this makes consumers feel like their money was well spent since that they are able to get
However film and television isn't needed a lot, this is because we have apps like youtube which allow us to get a lot of media for free. Services like Netflix will lose money as an result of this.

The Newspaper/ Print industry has changed very much over the years, one of the changes to the newspaper/ print industry is that now anyone and everyone is now able to become a journalist/ reporter since now a days people have phones witch inside them have cameras, this gives consumers a lot more power since they are able to intervene when an event has happened and upload it to a social media straight away.
One advantage of the Newspaper/print is that consumers can easily become a journalist or reporter, this makes it so that everyone can become a prosumer since they are able to give their input on an event, phones are portable this makes consumers take their phone with them as it is easy to bring it with you, this means that anyone with a phone has an opportunity to do a lot.
However the disadvantage of other people being able to post/ show any type of media is that anyone can come up with fake news, this makes it so that online and even on the newspaper producers make it harder for people to trust this industry because they could just use this as a scheme to get more money and publicity.
Another disadvantage is that since their is no trust, it will be harder for other consumers to find out what is true and what is fake, when it comes to trust in the news people now a days are divided since a lot of other people do this to get more publicity.

Through all of this i come to the conclusion that the audience have control over majority of everything. this is because without the audience they cant make money and also if the audience doesnt like something they wont listen to/read/watch it since it isn't to their liking and they wont do anything they dont want to. However they dont have control of everything since they cant stop some of the negatives of having power, this is because they cant stop bad feed back nor can they can they stop people from ignoring their music and etc.

audience power

the age of new and digital media(internet) gives audiences more power.

one of the ways that audiences gain more power inside the music industry is because of how they have the ability to self publish allowing them more power and turning them into a prosumer, with things like YouTube, spotify, deezer, iTunes, sound cloud, etc this gives them even more power since on youtube you dont even have to pay to publish your music into the world witch makes it easier for people to get more viewers since before you had to go a record label to get it heard (this also had a chance of being a waste of time since people wont always want to buy it/listen to it).
however with all of this power the negative factor is that their might be people cyber bullying you, this is because people can give their feed back, witch might not always be to the prosumers liking.
Their is no way to stop this other than to delete the comment or block them.
The music industry is based off of the audiences liking just like most other industrys this means that if people dont like it the producers/prosumers wont gain anything.

One of the ways that audiences gain more power in the film and television industry is because of how the producers can gain publicity from their shows/films and they can get money from movies(this could also be a negative since they might get less money than they used to make it) the audience can give feed back on films and television shows, to show whether it is worth the producers to keep sending advertising on the shows. the television can also be entertainment for the consumers for  whenever they are bored.(if the audience doesn't like a show on the television and its a less popular niche the producers will probably stop since it is'nt gaining any money nor any publicity/attention)
however even though the television can be interesting for viewers, not many people watch any shows on the television since they can use a portable device which is easier and more effective since you can travel with it as well.

One of the ways that audiences gain more power when it comes to newspapers is because of how everyone can become a reporter/journalist since most people now a days have cameras built into their phone witch makes their job a lot easier since if in case of a incident people can record it or take pictures of it, this gives audiences more power since they can be in control witch gives a different perspective from a professional journalist/reporter.
However this can also be a negative since it has been apparent that people create fake news, this is a problem for people since the prosumer is just trying to attract more consumers to believe lies. Since their is fake news this makes people not have trust when it comes to consumers making a report of an event.

Through all of this i come to the conclusion that the audience have control over majority of everything. this is because without the audience they cant make money and also if the audience doesnt like something they wont listen to/read/watch it since it isn't to their liking and they wont do anything they dont want to. However they dont have control of everything since they cant stop some of the negatives of having power, this is because they cant stop bad feed back nor can they can they stop people from ignoring their music and etc.

audience theory

Question 1. Passive audiences: this is the view that audiences take in information from the media that has the same effect on everyone.

Question 2. active audiences: this is the most generally accepted view that audiences interact with the media they consume.

Question 3.hypodermic needle theory: this is the suggestion hat audiences are always passive and therefore take the intended message from the producer as if it was injected into their minds. This assumes no difference in audience members.
this is kind of bad because of how they only focus on one type of audience community/members while they don't think of other types of consumers.(Aspirer reformer explorer succeeder Resigned struggler etc.)

Question 4.
Information or Surveillance: Planet earth 2/documentarys. this gives information about animal life and plant life, giving you new information weather you like the animals or not it still appeals to a lot of people who are willing to learn more about the living parts of the planet/wildlife.(planet earth is a mainstream since it appeals to a lot of audiences.) this mostly appeals to adults above 20.

Identity:The chase/quiz shows. These fit into this category because of how any one can sign up onto to it to see if they can win the shows challenges to get a some kind of reward/prize. This makes consumers draw towards quiz shows because if you win you will get something you want.(the producers get money through advertising and sponsorship but will lose money if the consumer wins.)

Diversion/Entertainment: PS4(games). games provide an easy escape from reality giving them entertainment and indulgence for the struggler to keep them busy from whats happening in the world. this fits because it is one of the easiest ways to do it.

Relationship: holby city(drama)/soap operas: this fits into this category because of how long certain shows go on for, usually dramas and soap operas go on for a while this gives the audience a connection with the characters and since their is a lot of characters usually people find a connection to some of them and feel sorry for when any of the characters are in pain.

Blue planet 2: It starts with a mans voice that has been in multiple documentary, this gives consumers a little familiarity with the show even though they haven't watched it.
The cuts they use are fluid and quick, this gives the audience a nice view of whats happening, only to see something even more beautiful. At one point their was a shot where they show whats above the oceans while contrasting with the ocean underneath, revealing its amphibians and sea weed with beautiful to attract the viewer.

(this is a documentary, classing under Information/Surveillance.)

Blog feedback and Learner Response

The strongest piece of work i have done in this subject is connotations, denotations and analysis and I feel like my weakest piece of work is on the photo story board this is because of the how i show lack of emotion in each shot and it is usually just the same face, I think I did really good on the connotations denotations and analysis is because i put a lot of effort into it and usually i do alright.
I need to work up on my grammar and punctuation towards my blogs

October assessment learner response

WWW: Good understanding of the camera shot used.                              grade: 3   marks:12/25

-A good attempt at analysing how children are represented in the media with some analysis on effect.

LR- more detailed analysis with much more key terminology to gain higher marks
-Revise denotation.

Q1. no marks. I didn't get this question because i mistook it for connotations when it was actually denotations.
Q2. 1
Q3. 1 (out of 2) I did not get full marks on this question because I didn't mention much about the producers and how they can be a group or a individual.
Q4. 1 (out of 2) I did not get full marks on this question because of how I didnt talk about the demographic type they are.
Q5. 1 (out of 2) I didn't go into deep analysis on why so I lost a mark
Q6. 1 (out of 3) I lost two marks for i did not notice a lot of important information proving it is a film poster and I did not have full knowledge and understanding of the topic.
Q7. 1 (out of 2) I was not going into full detail and didn't realise all of the connotations for the environment around the child and the meaning of his facial expression
Q8. 2 (out of 4)  I didn't get the question fully right because i didn't have full understanding of theoretical frame work and not the appropriate terminology to get more marks.
Q9. 4 (out of 8) I was not able to get full marks for I didn't have the best appropriate and effective use of terminology, I also don't have the full knowledge of why the advertisers use children in particular.

I need to use better terminology.
My strongest question was number 9. I did better on this question because I put a lot more detail and showed more understanding of the question.
My weakest question was number 6. I did worse on this question then any other because I didn't put a lot of effort into the question and stopped after saying 2 reasons on how we know its a movie, making me lose 2 marks.

Q9. (re-draft)
The reasons charities use pictures of children in advertising is to make the consumers feel sympathetic, this also makes the consumer want to come to the persons aid in some way and the only way they can do this is through water aid.
Also the facial expression of the child shows he has been suffering and adults wont like children suffering because they themselves might have children and would never want them to be in a position like the child in the advert.

Minority report analysis

The first shot is a MEDIUM SHOTThis shot gives us a small look of the environment and it also shows some of the characters facial expressions, also giving us a look at how the characters are organised, which is in a line, since they are in a line the person who is the front and at most of the focus shows he is one of the main characters/most important out of those people.

The second shot is a LONG SHOT I know this because of how the shot shows more more then a persons feet, head and the top of a car. This gives us a look at the environment of a alley way of some sort with an explosion in the background. you can also see a man attempting to get out of a car while someone is at the back of the alley way watching.

In this CLOSE UP SHOT it shows a man staring at the camera in tiredness and confidence it shows that he is either up against a corner with no where to run. In this we can see only a tiny bit of background where a car has a broken window and a air vent above him.

connotations denotations and analysis

Image result for football advertisement posters

Denotations
In this advertisement you can see a man standing straight in a american football/rugby player outfit.
The background looks dark misty with bright lights shinning down behind him.
Also you can see a stadium seats in the background, it kind of looks like they are standing up and cheering.Their is also a text saying "stronger faster and tougher." with a

Connotations
When you see the man standing up it might represent determination, strive and resilience.
Since the background is misty and dark it sets an eerie mood and the man is standing in the middle of it all.
The crowd in the stadium show that this is some sort of competition and this person seems to be the spot light since we cant see any one else.
The text refers to him and the brand.

Analysis
This makes the consumers want to be like this person because they have set it out for him to look like a hero.
Also the setting and background creates some tension with the person and it presents him as a strong individual and he did all of this because of nike.

photo story-board

MEDIUM SHOT gives us a view of the background and the environment.
this also shows to everyone that their is no one with this character and he is by himself and sets a silent atmosphere.

LONG SHOT gives us a view of the characters face it also gives an impression that he is lonely and is also contemplating.
it also gives us another view of the background by himself
MEDIUM CLOSE-UPshows us what the character's eyes were looking at and when you relate it to the other character it shows something the character doesn't have.
this shot also gives us a bright background while in the other one it was moody indicating they are perfect while he isn't.
MEDIUM SHOTshows him turning around and coming towards them to at least to gain any type of attention.
it also shows that he doesn't have enough courage to actually change his own self

OVER THE SHOULDER SHOT shows that the other character has gained interest into the person while the person leans and pretends not to care about it.
it also gives us an impression he wants to act smug and confident.
EXTREME CLOSE UP shows that the other character has seen something significant in his sight of view.
also giving us a little sympathy from this character and thoughtfulness and contempt.
CLOSE UP shows us the character contemplating his depression and deciding what to do next.
also it shows the character with his eyes closed making him look vulnerable.
this also shows what the other character was gazing at.
HIGH ANGLED shot gives us a clear view of whats happening.
It also shows us how sad he can be because he keeps on gazing at other peoples friendship while he himself is lonely
MEDIUM SHOT show us how the character in the back has shown a interest and kindness to approach him.
also it shows the character looking out the window wondering.

MEDIUM SHOT  shows us that he is not alone anymore and they have created a friendship with each other.
it also shows them shaking hands making it seem like it was his fault in the first place.

denotations, connotation and analysis (water aid)

Image result for dig toilets not graves water aid ad
Denotations
In this advertisement their is a boy with a blue shirt witch looks old and dusty.
the background looks abandoned and plain with nothing really their. It is a bright day with trees and a house/cottage in the background as well.
The boy looks a bit unhappy, lonely and depressed.

Connotations
The dusty blue shirt the boy is wearing suggests the lack of water or resources
The imperative "dig toilets not graves" suggests without natural resources we need from day today like toilets, food, water, tooth brushes,baths/natural hygiene we could suffer considerable implying that because of this we could end up in a grave.
The boy himself probably looks depressed because of the lack of resources and life.

Analysis
All of this makes the consumers sympathise for him and his struggle. This takes an effect on us and makes us want to help them because no one wants other people to suffer when they don't deserve it.
The consumers will realise how lucky they are for getting a better life then the boy in the advert and they would want to support water aid.

LIAR film poster analysis

batman vs superman poster.
Image result for batman vs superman film posters
Language
This movie is made by the Warner Brothers who are well known by many and is loved by many.
At first glance could tell that this movie is a action for many reasons. 1. two people are confronting each other 2.The background is dusty and bright almost as if their was a war a battle this.
3.their facial expressions are serious witch probably means their is going to be some sorta of conflict between them.

The text "Who will win" is written at the bottom where it is less noticeable and driven away from from the characters. The super man and batman symbol is also in the background mixing both their symbols, as if to say they have engaged each other.

Industry
When u look at this you don't know who the protagonist/antagonist is (unless your more knowledgeable about the movie/comics) witch gets some people confused and it is quite different to what other company's  do.

Audience
The target audience for this film is quite wide their is the fans of DC who want to see a battle of one of the most well known super heroes in comic books this helps attract more people because these people are well known and are easy to recognise.
they also attract action lovers, teenagers, children and etc.

Representation
Certain people will think this is not worth watching because super heroes are represented in a certain way that makes them look childish and pointless, this is a down fall for them because since they are doing a super hero movie their will be people who don't think that its worth watching and has only got violence involved without any proper reason, from other peoples perspective it is not going to be enjoyable or have any thing interesting and different.
