Summer Research Project

Dr Who
Narrative:The story starts off with a girl that jumps out of some objects, the atmosphere is mysterious and the audience don't know a lot about whats happening. This would be the equilibrium of the story. Than as the little girl opens the cube and saves her future self, one of the antagonists appears and confronts them but the doctor appears and helps them to escape. This would be the disequilibrium.

Character: At the start we are introduced to a younger version of Amy pond who walks through the museum, their is a cloud of mystery on to why she is in this exact location,.the older Amy pond is trapped in a cube, both of these characters would be considered helpers/sidekicks.
The Doctor is the protagonist of the story and he makes the audience feel relief when he appears out know where to save both of the Amy ponds.
The dalek is the antagonist, its entrance surprises the audience as the museum was very quiet before.

Iconography: The costume the doctor uses is an iconic coat from the series, it also makes it easier to recognise who the doctor is in the show. The lighting in the clip was mainly a dark blue light emitting from the cube which is to show that it is a sci-fi show. The actors in the show are the most recognisable as they have been in the show for a long period of time.

Setting:The setting is in a dark museum that gives the audience a sense of mysteriousness as a gigantic cube is in the centre and the audience doesn't know why it is in this place specifically...

Humans
Narrative:The story is about people buying robots to help them with there daily life except the robots are malfunctioning, most of the robots aren't trusted by people as they have no emotion. The story splits between 4 different people, 1 person lives their family and the robot seems to always be watching them. Also the show goes over the problems with creating machines and allowing them to be with us in our daily lives, for an example the robots may take over as we are inferior to them.

Character:The first robot seems to be a care taker and it brings uncertainty to the mother of the family as the robot is shrouded in mystery. Another person seems to have a father and son relationship with a a robot and the robot seems to be malfunctioning.
The robots in this show reinforce stereotypes as the robots are emotionless and the way they run and walk is stiff.

Iconography:The robots have contact lenses, this makes the robots look a lot more recognizable and distinct from the other characters. The actors in the show also act emotionless to give the impression of being robots.

Setting:The show is set in the near future where robots have been made to help humanity. Since it is set in the near future it sought of fits into a stereotypical sci fi. However the robots are usually in house environments which goes against the stereotypical sci fi areas.
